When we are young, we often dream of what we will do, be, or have when we grow up. As adults, we sometimes have those dreams and visions, but don’t always act on those ideas. Use a vision board to help you take action on those dreams.
To get started, we need to spend some time thinking about what we want to do or change.
These articles can get you started in moving toward the changes you want to make. Having a vision of what you want is just the first step towards making the changes.
Find out what a vision board can do for you
Many people start out the new year with resolutions or goals for the year. Instead of resolutions, consider a vision board where you place ideas of what you want to work on for the year. You can start any time during the year. I like to reflect around my birthday as well as at the end of the year to see if I want to make some changes.
Plan your vision board
There is some planning involved when you choose to create a vision board. You need to spend some time deciding what area or areas you would like to focus on. You also need to think about whether this will be a short term vision board or one that will be a goal for the entire year. Are there some areas that you feel need more attention than others in your life so that is where you will start? Maybe you want to focus on work or your personal life. See what areas you can consider.
Gather your supplies
You will need to gather some supplies in order to start your vision board. Consider where you will place your vision board when you are done so you can see it. That may make a difference as to what supplies you choose. I have seen various types of vision boards from small notebooks to large poster boards. Seeing the vision board on an ongoing basis will help cement in your mind what you are working towards. It helps remind you of your ultimate goal.
Spend time considering what you want
Spend some time considering what you want in life. Give yourself space to really dig deep and consider what is best for you. Close your eyes and really dream. Maybe you need to go to a quiet place to be able to really think. Don’t feel like you have to get this all done at once. You could even get some friends together to do their own vision boards while enjoying each others company. Use a vision board to take action and get started with the direction you are aiming for.
You could consider a vision board that is not glued down to poster board. Using a notebook with plastic sleeves would allow you to change out the pictures. You could also do a notebook size sheet that you keep adding to the notebook as you work on different areas.
In the end, do what works best for you to be able to visualize where you want to be in say 6 months or a year. You can make the time shorter if it is a specific goal that you feel needs accomplished in a shorter time span.
In my free resource library, there are a few worksheets that can help you start the process of a vision board. I will be working on a few more items to go along with this over the next few months.
When will you set aside some time to start dreaming and taking action to change your life?
